Since 2008, IRM has maintained a full-time office at the Rashid Equestrian & Horse Racing Club, situated in Sakhir, where IRM executives are central to an ambitious project which aims to fulfil Bahrain’s long held ambition to stage international racing. The Royal Arabian project - a Kuwait Finance House-Bahrain (KFH-B) venture - will see the existing racing operations transformed into a vibrant, modern concern, with all the equestrian and public facilities required of a contemporary, international, horse racing venue.
IRM’s Bahrain-team works closely with executives from KFH-B, Government officials and the existing racecourse management team, formulating plans for the future development and management of international racing within the Kingdom. Racing at the Rashid Equestrian & Horse Racing Club takes place from circa late October through to late April each year, on turf. Each raceday generally comprises one Arabian race as a ‘curtain-raiser’ followed by five or six thoroughbred races. The thoroughbred programme is evenly balanced between local-bred and imported horses and features several Bahraini Group races throughout the season. Top Bahraini owner/trainer Fawzi Nass regularly competes with merit at the Dubai International Carnival. |
